In Guascor Bioenergia, the activities of R&D are focused in the research of biomass utilization technologies and the development of new products. These activities include the integration of advanced technology systems and the development of new technologies that are currently in the industrialization phase.
Guascor Engineering has a 670 KWe biomass gasification plant located in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Alava) for the gasification of all types of lignocellulosic biomass
The installation has a complete biomass pre-tratment system for the biomass conditioning. The gasifier is based on a novel multi-phased gasification system, designed to optimize in three reactors, the different key gasification reactions
In the first of the three reactors, the volatilisation reactor, two products are generated: a syngas current of a high calorific value, which is dragged toward the lateral reactors of the gasifier, and a bed of carbonaceous material (char), which is conducted toward the lower reactor (reactor of reduction). Thus, the syngas generated in the volatilisation reactor, is cleaned at a high temperature in the lateral thermal cracking reactors.
In the last reactor, the reduction reactor, the clean syngas is exposed to the bed of char generated in the volatilization reactor. In this bed, the char particles are decomposed into ashes in contact with the syngas, which generate a series of reactions that enrich the calorific value of the syngas. Once generated, the syngas passes through a sophisticated gas cleaning system that includes a ceramic filter and an organic solvent scrubber.
